South Sudan Agrees To Deploy Protection Force

The South Sudan government has agreed to accept the deployment of a UN-mandated regional force in Juba, a spokesman said, after months of hesitation over whether to allow extra foreign troops on its soil. Deputy Information Minister Akol Paul Kordit said late on Friday that the "cabinet has resolved unanimously to allow the deployment of the regional protection force anytime from now".    A senior Nigerian soldier was on Tuesday killed by the Boko Haram, army sources told PREMIUM TIMES. B.U. Umar, a lieutenant colonel and commanding officer of 114 TF battalion of the Nigerian Army was ambushed alongside his troops on Monday morning between Bita and Piridang. “His vehicle stepped on an improvised explosive device, but he was not hurt,” a source told PREMIUM TIMES. “He came out to assess the damage on the vehicle and Boko Haram opened fire and killed him in the process.” The soldiers were said to be on their way to Yola in Adamawa State from Bita in Borno State when the incident occurred, sources said. The full casualty from the attack is not yet clear. Mr. Umar, who recently took over the command of the 114 battalion about three weeks ago, was a member of the 48 Regular Course in the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA.     The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, said it would embark on a one week warning strike over failure by the Federal Government to implement the 2009 Agreement and 2013 MoU. ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, spoke on Monday at the University of Abuja during a press conference organised by the union. Former Sultan of Sokoto,Ibrahim Dasuki dies at 93

The former Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki died yesterday. The cause of his death is not yet known. He was 93 years old. Dasuki was the 18th Sultan of Sokoto. He was deposed in 1996 during the military government of Sani Abacha. Prior to becoming Sultan, he held the traditional title of Baraden Sokoto. He was the first Sultan from the Buhari line of the house of Dan Fodio and he was a close associate of Ahmadu Bello, a friend of Abubakar Gumi and was influential in the founding of Jama’atu Nasril Islam. After the death of Abubakar Siddique, the 17th Sultan of Sokoto on November 1, 1988, Dasuki was among the leading contenders to become the new Sultan. Oscar Pistorius moves to prison 'better adapted' for disability

      Jailed South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been moved to another prison at his request. Pistorius asked to move to the nearby Atteridgeville Correctional Centre, South Africa's department of correctional service said. The centre, just outside Pretoria, is better adapted for disabled offenders. The former Paralympian, known as the Blade Runner, is serving a six-year prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. The double amputee had been serving his time in Kgosi Mampuru II prison, a large facility in Pretoria which houses about 7,000 inmates. In comparison, Atteridgeville is far smaller, and houses offenders serving up to six years and has rehabilitation and development programmes for inmates. Bloodbath as truck crushes 7 to death in Ibadan

    The accident which occurred around 6:20pm on saturday  at New Garage Ibadan claimed the lives of not less than seven people.The truck driver lost control of his vehicle before crashing into retail shops.      An eyewitness Agunla Lanre  said the ill fated vehicle was coming from Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the driver suddenly lost control and ran into a taxi killing 7 people.

11 die,7 missing as Yoruba and Egun communities clash in Lagos

      At least seven residents of Otodo Gbame, an Egun community in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State have been declared missing after a clash between the residents and some Yoruba youths, alleged to be land grabbers.        It was gathered that over the weekend, three corpses of residents, believed to have jumped into a river during the crisis, were seen floating. Residents also claimed that a total of 11 persons had lost their lives in the clash. The missing residents were identified as Akuwayon Mawewang, Jeremiah Abode, Babajide Jinu, Hunu Agonbabo, Tenseme Fofeyon, Auyiho Mawugi and Temidire Aishat. Nine of the corpses recovered by residents from a river in the community were identified as Babajide Tosihun, Mfinrinfo Esinfo, Sosu Abosede, a pregnant woman, Bose Alade, one John, Thoto Avonba, Sesinu Ahiaboji, Hosu Wejede and Mawuyon Oviawe.      The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company on Sunday apologised to its consumers in Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, and Oniru areas of Lagos over power outage. Godwin Idemudia, the General Manager, Corporate Communications of the company, spoke in a statement in Lagos. According to him, the outage was due to the damage done to the 33KVA underground cable by the contractors handling the Lagos State Government beautification project along Kingsway Road, Ikoyi. Mr. Idemudia listed the affected areas as King’s Way Road, Ikoyi, Glover, Banana Road, Park View Estate, Ilabere, Bourdillon Road, Gerald, Queens Drive, Cooper, Maroko Close, Oroke Drive, Okotiebor, Mullina, Club Road, State House, Cameron and Lugard. Algerian delegation arrive Uyo for 2018 FIFA World cup qualifier with their own food,water.

      The Algerians who arrived uyo  at exactly 6:45pm were spotted with pillows,bottles of water and other necessary items ahead of their World cup qualifier  against the Super eagles of Nigeria.       Algeria are second in Group B level on points with Cameroon who held them to a 1-1 draw in the opening round of the qualifiers.       The kick off for the match is slated for 5pm at the Akwa ibom stadium, Uyo. TB joshua reinstates deleted clinton win prophecy on facebook

Following much backlash from Nigerians over the prophesy by influential Nigerian TV evangelist, TB Joshua that Hillary Clinton would win the US presidential election which later turned out otherwise, Pastor Joshua has reinstated the post on his Facebook page after deleting it yesterday when the backlash became too hot. .        Arsenal defender Hector bellerin has signed a £30 million SIX-YEAR deal to make him one of Arsenal's top earners.        The Spaniard who joined from Barca's La Masia as a teenager has developed into one of the finest right backs in modern day football earning him interest from big clubs like Barcelona and Manchester city       Bellerin put pen to paper on a deal worth in excess of £100,000 a-week which will net him more than £30m with bonuses and add ons.     It was revealed by THE MIRROR last month that Arsene Wenger's side were making an offer and it is understood Bellerin was so keen that a deal was agreed within four days.     Arsenal will now look to tie down midfielder Mesut oil and attacker Alexis Sanchez on similar long term deals.
